Tom Cruise to Star in Van Helsing Remake

Tom Cruise is to star in a reimagining of Van Helsing.
The Mission: Impossible actor will also produce the remake of the 2004 Hugh Jackman vampire movie alongside Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci's K/O Paper Products in one of the pair's first works under their new two-year first-look production deal with Universal Pictures. The film is expected to be released in 2016.
Alex and Roberto will also tackle a remake of The Mummy as part of their new deal and are delighted to be working with Universal Pictures long-term. "We're thrilled to call Universal Pictures our home. From the moment we sat down with Adam Fogelson [chairman], Donna [Langley, co-chairman] , Peter, Jeff and the entire Uni team, there was an instant flow of inspired ideas. They really understand the importance of building a strong creative team and giving our shared projects their full support. We're proud to start making movies that will live as part of Universal's enduring legacy," they said in a statement.

Simon Pegg Surprised at Tom Cruise’s Normalcy

Simon Pegg was surprised at how "normal" Tom Cruise was. The Star Trek actor starred alongside Tom in Mission: Impossible 3 and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and he says despite his A-list status he was very grounded as was his wife Katie Holmes and their six-year-old daughter Suri.
"That he's quite normal, you know, he's a real family man. When Katie and Suri visited the set, they're just like a normal little family and you see them doing normal things. I don't know what I expected them to do. Suri's a very sweet unprecocious little girl, she just does what kids do, she's not walking around in high heels and shouting at people, as some people would have us believe," Simon replied when asked what surprised him the most about Tom.

Tom Cruise’s Top Gun Sequel Planned Soon

Tom Cruise is likely to film a Top Gun sequel before Mission: Impossible 5.
The iconic actor is reportedly close to signing a deal to appear in a follow-up to the 1986 movie about an elite flying school for fighter pilots with Paramount, and the studio's president Adam Goodman has confirmed wheels are in motion to create the film.
"We'll likely make a Top Gun sequel with Tom Cruise before the next Mission: Impossible. Jerry Bruckheimer will produce with Tony Scott returning to direct. All parties are moving ahead. We've hired Peter Craig to write the script," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Speaking about the film previously, Tom confirmed it would have a similar "tone" to the first installment, but would not give away any details about the storyline: "We're working on it. I hope we can figure this out to go do it again. If we can find a story that we all want to do, we all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way we shot Top Gun."
Mission: Impossible 4 Breaks Franchise Record

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is the most successful film in the movie series' franchise. The Brad Bird-directed film - which sees Tom Cruise return as operative Ethan Hunt, alongside Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg - has made $571 million worldwide since its release late last year, and studio Paramount has admitted it is delighted with the success.
"Brad Bird, Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams and the entire team who worked on M:I4 created an incredibly entertaining film, one that fans worldwide embraced in record numbers," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount. Mission: Impossible II is the next most successful film in the franchise, earning $546 million worldwide.
Brad has previously joked he was terrified about being the director who killed off Tom when he made him hang off the world's tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai for the fourth installment of the movie: "I think every director that has worked with him in these kinds of films probably has that feeling where your eyes snap open at three in the morning and you go, 'My god, what am I doing?' Definitely."
Russell Brand Ready to Rock New Film

Forgetting Russell Brand just isn’t possible anymore. When the British-born comedian hosted MTV’s VMAs in 2008, he was relatively unknown. Now, he’s cropping up in star-studded comedies and pulling in huge bucks at the box office. He’s playing himself in Hop, the biggest movie hit of the year, and next week he’ll lead Arthur to the theaters.
Now, we’re hearing Brand is returning to his movie roots: he’ll be playing a rock star in an upcoming film role. He played eccentric star Aldous Snow in both Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek, to much success. Rumor says that Brand is negotiating a role in Rock of Ages, a big screen adaptation of the Broadway hit of the same name. The plot centers on a 1980s rock bar in LA owned by a washed-up rocker (Alec Baldwin). Happening star Stacee Jax (Tom Cruise) will headline a concert sponsored by the bar. Reportedly, Brand will play Lonny, the bar’s operator.
Mary J. Blige and Julianne Hough are already attached to the film, a gossip says that Amy Adams is in talks for another role.

Mission Impossible Sequel Scores a Name

The Dark Knight Rises wasn’t the only sequel to be named this week.
At a press conference in Dubai, Tom Cruise announced the official title for the next Mission Impossible film – while simultaneously confusing us in the process.
"One of the things I always wanted for the franchise was for it not to have a number afterwards," Cruise stated.
"I’ve never done sequels to films and I never thought of these films as sequels. Paramount has done a great job in coming up with a title, so it’s not going to be MI2, 3, 4: It’s going to be Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol."

Tom Cruise to Pilot Top Gun Sequel

It appears Tom Cruise and director Tony Scott will be reteaming for another flyby in theaters.
Approximately 25 years after making Top Gun together, the two are expected to reunite for the film’s sequel – a movie that will feature Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, Cruise’s character from the 1986 film.
Although it was unclear what role – if any – Tom would play in the Paramount production, screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) told Vulture the film could not exist without the Navy pilot.

Vanilla Sky: Most Confusing Film Ever

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz might want to think twice before reuniting for another film.
The stars of the box office disappointment Knight and Day are now being reminded of another title from their past.
According to a poll conducted by LoveFilm, 2001’s Vanilla Sky is considered the most confusing movie ever made. The surreal Cameron Crowe film - also starring Cruise’s ex-girlfriend Penelope Cruz - centered on a wealthy publishing heir (Cruise) who suffers from a series of strange hallucinations after a car accident.
David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive ranked second in the poll while Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly, placed third.

Box Office Breakdown: Dreamy Numbers for Inception

Warner Bros. might have had difficulty marketing Inception, but strong word of mouth, stunning visuals and Christopher Nolan’s reputation were enough to sell the film. The $160 million thriller opened to $62.8 million in weekend receipts, placing the film on top of all original projects out so far this summer. Inception also bested Leonardo DiCaprio’s previous debuts (including Shutter Island‘s $41.1 million) and Nolan’s earlier titles (outside of The Dark Knight).
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, on the other hand, had a harder time conjuring up interest. The Disney remake grossed only $17.6 million since Friday ($24.7 million since Wednesday). That’s a considerable disappointment given the $150 million price tag, but overseas dollars will likely help the studio.
Meanwhile, a film that placed #12 on this week’s chart actually outperformed both Inception and Apprentice. The Kids Are All Right, starring Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, had the best per screen average ($28,009) of any movie currently in theaters.
